Debt Relief Companies

Lesson #1 when dealing with debt relief companies!
Everything is about profit.

Your debt is worth a lot of money to a lot of people, and no matter how much we all want to believe otherwise there are a lot of people out there willing to take advantage of you for the sake of a few extra bucks. Hidden fees, unnecessary debt relief programs for any given debt situation - its all possible, its all been done before and we pretty sure it will all be done again. And its not that these debt relief companies have the power to impose their very will - we let them.

Fighting back against the debt relief companies
Lesson #2 - you are paying them to help you. Don't loose sight of the fact that you are in charge and you have the power - if something goes wrong, or if you are led in a direction that proves disadvantageous for your personal finances,k its no one's fault but your own for being led in that direction.

So, play an active role. Ask questions, do your own research - just because you pay a debt relief company to help take care of debts on your behalf doesn't mean you should sit around and take their every word or suggestion as gospel. Remain in control, know your debt relief options and if something doesn't make sense let your company know.

Know when to fold 'em
Rule #3 - no matter what these debt relief companies tell you, you are free to drop them and their services at any time. Don't be afraid to take a few hits against your credit score if it means avoiding impending disaster or high costs seen with your company. Work with them, but know when to get the heck outta dodge.
